Powerboat refresher days
Aimed at club members who already hold Powerboat Level 2 whose boat handling may be a bit rusty. The day will look at refreshing boat handling skills and also update students on the latest best practice for safety boat drivers.

RYA Level 1
A basic introduction to the theory and practice of safe seamanship in a small powered craft. The course will provide an introduction to boat handling skills with plenty of time afloat in addition to essential theory ashore. This course available for anyone aged 8 and upwards.

RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2
The National Powerboat Certificate gives a thorough introduction to boat handling skills. Using planning boats, the course includes launching and recovery, maintenance, trip planning, emergency procedures as well as the essential boat handling skills necessary to drive this type of craft in a recreational or training capacity. A fairly intensive but enjoyable two day course. This course is available for anyone aged 12 and upwards.

RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 Coastal Conversion
For those who have an inland Level 2 certificate this course covers the theoretical side of coastal powerboating such as tides, charts, and passage planning and then puts it onto practice with a coastal trip. A fun and informative day out on Southampton Water and the Solent visiting places such as Cowes and Hamble.
There will be a session at Spinnaker club on the Thursday evening preceding these dates to cover the necessary theory and allow maximum time on the water at Southampton.

RYA Safety Boat Certificate
Following the RYA syllabus this course includes simulated rescue situations, various rescue and recovery techniques for dealing with dinghies, windsurfers, canoes and kayaks as well as course laying and different ways of conducting searches.
Dates – 13/14 March, 17/18 April, 14/15 August, 16/17 October
Cost -
International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
The ICC is required is required in order to hire or use powerboats abroad. Those wishing to apply are required to hold the Powerboat Level 2 certificate and complete either a coastal endorsement to that certificate or a coastal theory session. Those wishing to use inland waterways are required to complete the multiple choice CEVNI test.

Powerboat Instructor
A three day course for those wishing to instruct on RYA Powerboat Courses. The course lasts three days and is usually run by two RYA Powerboat Trainers. The emphasis is on how to teach the relevant skills and debrief students. Successful candidates are then qualified to teach Level 1 and 2 courses at RYA Powerboat Schools. Powerboat instructors who also hold the Safety boat award are also qualified to teach the Safety boat course.

Training is available to Members and non Members. Non Club Members are required to take out annual Training Membership which allows them access to unlimited training within that year. Membership rates for 2010 are £33 for adults and £21 for children under 18. The Training Membership fee is deducted from the cost of full Membership if you join the Club within 6 months of Training Membership expiry.
