Following from the Commodore's email on Monday we are writing to you today to let you know in a little more detail what we have on offer from Monday 29th March to help our members get back on the water in a safe and enjoyable way.

Apologies for the long email, but we have a lot planned! Should you have any questions or want any advice about how you can get back out on the water please do not hesitate to get in touch with James via training@spinnakerclub.co.uk

Our latest Covid Risk Assessments, and Covid Secure Documentation are available to view in the member's area of the club website. These are likely to be updated as we receive further guidance over the coming weeks.

On Wednesday 24th March we will be holding a Zoom meeting to which all members are invited. This evening will look at some of the highlights of the 2021 programme and give some great advice about how to get the most out of your membership. The link to join us will be released nearer the time.

Safety Cover

Normally when there is no racing, and outside of organised activities, we do not have a safety boat on the lake. From Monday 29th March to Monday 5th April we will have a safety boat available from 9am to 5 pm daily to support our members in getting back on the water in the safest possible way. Although we will have safety cover available can I remined all members of the current RYA advice to sail considerately and conservatively at this time.

Good Friday Fun Race

At 2pm on Good Friday we will be having a short, fun race to help everyone get into the Bank Holiday spirit, and have a warm up before the racing programme kicks off with the Greyfriars Pursuit Race on Easter Sunday. We hope to see you join in the racing this year!

Preparing Your Boat

While your boats have been watched over through the Winter by James to make sure they remain secure, many have missed out on their usual winter care, and maintenance. To help all members get their boats ready James will be available from Monday 29th March to Monday 5th April to assist members in getting their boats out of hibernation and provide advice and assistance on the maintenance of boats. James will also be ashore for large parts of the following week and will assist where he can around the training programme.

Club Boat Hire

The hire of club boats will resume on Monday 29th March, as in 2020 all hire must be pre-booked via the club website.

Sailing Refreshers - Bookable on the Website

In 2020 it was fantastic to see so many new members learning to sail. Due to the various restrictions which were brought in from November 2020 many of our members have not had a chance to sail since October, scarily that is 5 months ago! To support our adult members in getting back afloat we are running a number of sailing refreshers from the Easter Weekend, for free!

These sessions will aim to help members reacquaint themselves with the rigging of the club boats, and blow away the cobwebs out on the lake with an instructor on hand to support them.

Powerboat Refresher - Bookable on the Website

We have a powerboat refresher running on Saturday 3rd April. This is aimed at our existing Powerboat Level 2 and Safetyboat qualified members, to help them prepare for the coming season. This is a free session.

RYA Training Courses - Bookable on the Website

Our RYA Training courses are now open for booking for the whole of 2021. We have a range of powerboat and dinghy courses available suitable for every level. There is still some space left in the Easter holidays if you want to get involved, and the Youth courses will provide a great way for our younger members to get outdoors, active and be sociable in a safe, controlled way!

Spinnaker Youth Training/Ladies Sailing/Tuesday Evening Improvers - Bookable on the Website

Our first blocks of 2021 for Spinnaker Youth Training, Ladies Sailing, and our new Tuesday Evening Adult Improver Groups (including a Start Racing group) are now open for booking. These sessions are a great way to get active, learn more about sailing and have fun with others!

Please do get in touch if you have any questions, advice or suggestions.

We look forward to seeing you sailing/paddleboarding/kayaking/windsurfing very soon!
