Spinnaker Sailing Club Weekly News!

Published 11:31 on 8 Jun 2021

I hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine of recent days, and fingers crossed it is going to stay this way for a while. With the May Half Term Holiday over we are moving back into our programme of regular weekly activities, and there is loads starting back up this week! Keep on reading for more information.

Hire of Club Boats, Kayaks and Paddleboards

With warm weather it has been great to see so many members making use of the club's equipment to get out on the water.

Recently we have seen an increasing number of members arriving at the club and wanting to hire equipment without pre-booking via the website. Can we please remind all members that club equipment hire must be pre-booked. This is so we can ensure we have enough equipment available for all activities, that we have staff in place to support equipment hire, and allow us to minimise use of on the spot payments. Occasionally we do restrict or stop equipment hire due to other activities which are taking place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all members/users of the club facilities.

The club's online hire system is setup and managed so that only equipment available for hire can be booked. If you find equipment is not available to book it means it is not available at the club, most likely because it is being used for another activity!

Memorial Race

Tomorrow sees our annual Memorial Race for the Geoff Fardell Trophy, followed by a Fish and Chip Supper. Please remember orders for Fish and Chips must be made by 1159 on Wednesday 9th June (tomorrow)! More details can be found here.

Ladies Sailing, Spinnaker Youth Training and Adult Improvers Groups

Our regular member's training groups restart this week, with the Adult Improvers getting going again tonight!

All these activities are now closed for booking on the website, but we do still have a few spaces available! Please get in touch with James as soon as possible via email if you would like to join in (training@spinnakerclub.co.uk)!

Regular Club Racing

Our regular club racing programme is still very popular (which is what we want)! Remember our racing is open to all members. Youth sailors if SYT is not running you are always welcome to come and join in the racing, and you might even do well! In our last set of sprint races Lewis in his Optimist came 5th out of 24 for the first race!

Solo Open Meeting

Our postponed Solo Open Meeting is taking place on Saturday 19th June, and booking is now open on the club website

While the Solo Open is running from 1100 to 1630 there will be no club equipment hire available. Can we please also ask members to avoid using the lake whilst racing is running to allow the highest quality event possible, and everyone's safety.
