Spring has finally arrived with warmer and hopefully some dryer weather! With last week and this week having lighter winds than some other recent weeks it has been brilliant seeing so many members making use of the Club!

Work Party - 12th March

Very many thanks to so very many club members who attended on Saturday. We were lucky to stay dry all day, and only had wet grass and puddles to endure. The Laser and Club boat area, the Solo area, the Oppie area and the berths along the fence by the car park were all cleared of their boats, strimmed and cleared of various types of clutter, and all boats returned. The Solo berths were also improved by improved anchoring of the tie down chain, and a tie down chain was added to our Topper area.

Other groups tidied the race hut, pressure washed the race hut decking, weeded the clubhouse patio and cleared the clubhouse guttering.

We hope that all club members notice these efforts and the improvements to the site. There will be other work party days, and we hope other club members will feel enthused to attend next time. We are sure that everyone who attended felt they had a rewarding day, and the pasties for lunch were much appreciated by all.

Winter Memberships

This year we have had a number of members join us on our 5 month Winter Membership offer (November to March)! It has been fantastic to welcome a range of sailors with this membership including several 2.4mR sailors and a new to the Club Solo sailor!

Yesterday an email was sent to all Winter Members about how to renew your membership for the remainder of 2022, and it has been brilliant to have already have two of you confirm you wish to remain with us for the rest of 2022!

Club Racing Programme

Sunday 13th March saw the final two races of our Frostbite Series and you can read a write up of the series at the link below, thanks to our results co-ordinator John Driscoll.

Frostbite Series Writeup and Results!

Sunday 15th March sees the start of our 9 race/3 weekend Alice Lisle Handicap Series. As we are entering Spring the Alice Lisle Series has different timings t our other races! The first start is at 11am, we then have a lunch break before race 2 starts at 1pm, with the race 3 on completion of race 2!

Finally as we start the Alice Lisle Series/and the Club's weekday training activities become busier we are reverting to fully volunteer run Club racing, a big thank you to Neil our Club Administrator who has supported our whole winter racing programme as Race Officer and Safetyboat Driver.

Save The Date - Wednesday 6th April

Don't forget on Wednesday 6th April at 7.30pm with our Pre-Wednesday Evening Racing Meeting! This is a great chance to hear updates on our racing programme from our Sailing Committee, and meet other members! The bar will be open so come and join us for a great in-person social evening!

Club Racing Covid-19 Procedures

Over the past 12 months as we have seen Covid-19 restrictions ease nationally we have also been relaxing some of the mitigations we put in place to make Club Racing as safe as possible back when we re-started in June 2020.

In 2021 we returned to having crewed safetyboats, which has been a fantastic way to get our newly qualified powerboat drivers some more experience, and allowing use of the Committee Boats again.

The final adaptation we had in place was that we suspended the requirement to "sign on" for Club Racing. With immediate effect all sailors who wish to enter Club Racing must sign on with the Race Officer before going afloat. In accordance with the Club's Sailing Instructions any competitor who does not sign on will be scored as Did Not Start (DNS)! Bringing back the requirement to sign on will help John our results Co-Ordinator publish accurate results, help us to ensure the safety of all competitors, and is a good habit to get into for when travelling to other events!

Club Boat Hire is back 7 days a week!

It's that time of year when we now have staff back at the Club 7 days a week! This means Club boats are available to hire 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm! Please be aware that boats may not be available for hire if they are being used for other Club organised activities.

Please remember all Club boats must be pre-booked via the Club Website.
