Spinnaker eSailing RYA Winter Club Championship Notice of Race
In an attempt to keep some sailing going, the Committee has put together a Virtual Sailing programme. This will try to follow the rest of the 2020 LD1 Spring sailing series.
We will be using Virtual Regatta Inshore (VR). This can be downloaded for free on mobile devices, tablets or pc. While you can log in as a guest, we recommend you create an account. You will have to pass the Sailing School which usually takes about an hour.
Racing will take place every Sunday morning from 11:00 for an hour.
The virtual race hut will open at 10:50 on Zoom at: Meeting ID: 833 6653 7535.
To join the race select Custom Race in VR. Ignore the 'Devenez VIP' box and click the Join button on the trapezium behind. Our racing will be called: spinny winter
The code for the Zoom and for the Virtual racing will be the same. This will be sent out on the Club email or can be provided if you email Laser@spinnakerclub.co.uk
If you get an error message 'no race exists with this name' then the Virtual Race Officer (VRO) hasn't set it up just yet.
Races will be set up for 19 people. If we exceed 19, then we will hold heats and the VRO will advise sailors who will have to stand out of a race.
The aim will be to offer 4 races each day. If there are more than 19 sailors then this may be extended to allow all sailors to sail 4 races or may be kept at 4 and all sailors compete in 3 races or less.
If there are less that 20 sailors, the type of boat will be:
Race 1: Star
Race 2: J/70
Race 3: Laser
Race 4: 49er
If heats are to be sailed, the VRO will adjust the classes as appears fairest. Portsmouth will be selected as the location.
The series will run for 3 weeks. 50% of races (rounded up) to count. The high discard figure recognises that connection to Virtual Sailor can drop out causing competitors t=not to finish.
When not racing (or if you drop out a race), it is possible to follow the race by selecting the camera button on the Custom Race and looking for our race.
The Virtual Clubhouse will close briefly at 11:30 owing to the Zoom 40 minute time limit. It will then be re-opened as soon as practical.
After racing, the Virtual Clubhouse will stay open but you will have to bring your own drinks. The series results will be put on the website as normal. Any failure of the VRO to correctly record the results will not be grounds for appeal! Results are being published in the Sailwave area.
Hoping to see as many of you as possible. No previous racing experience required. Here's a chance to pit your skills against the top club sailors without getting your feet wet!
