Spinnaker Virtual Spring Series and Virtual Holman Bowl Notice of Race
In an attempt to keep some sailing going, the Committee has put together a Virtual Sailing programme. This will try to follow the rest of the spring sailing series.
We will be using Virtual Regatta Inshore (VR). This can be downloaded for free on mobile devices, tablets or pc. While you can log in as a guest, we recommend you create an account. You will have to pass the Sailing School which usually takes about an hour.
Racing will take place every Wednesday Evening from 18:30 for an hour and Sunday morning from 11:00 for an hour.
The virtual race hut will open at the start times above on Discord to join the Race Hut email Laser@spinnakerclub.co.uk
The first race of the evening will be set up about 5 minutes later. To join the race select Custom Race in VR. Ignore the 'Devenez VIP' box and click the Join button on the trapezium behind. Type the code: see club email.
If you get an error message 'no race exists with this name' then the Virtual Race Officer (VRO) hasn't set it up just yet.
Races will be set up for 17 people. If we exceed 17, then we will hold heats and the VRO will advise sailors who will have to stand out of a race.
The aim will be to offer 3 races each day. If there are more than 20 sailors then this may be extended to allow all sailors to sail 3 races or may be kept at 3 and all sailors compete in 2 races.
The type of boat and location will be selected by the VRO on the day. It will remain the same for the whole day.
Both series will run for 6 weeks. Sunday series starting on 26 April and the Wed series on 29 April. 50% of races (rounded up) to count towards the Spring e-series on Sundays and the Holman e-bowl on Wednesdays.
For the Wednesday evening series, a handicapping system will be put in place to try and replicate the Holman philosophy. If you win a race, then you will be required to complete a 720 Degree turns as soon as possible after the start. For each further race win you will be required to complete additional 720. Failure to complete your turns will result in disqualification from that race.
When not racing, it is possible to follow the race by selecting the camera button on the Custom Race and looking for our race.
After racing, the Virtual Race Hut will stay open and the virtual bar that you didn't know was in the large filing cabinet will open. You will have to bring your own drinks. The series will be put on the website as normal. Any failure of the VRO to correctly record the results will not be grounds for appeal!
Hoping to see as many of you as possible. No previous racing experience required. Here's a chance to pit your skills against the top club sailors without getting your feet wet!
