Our History

Spinnaker Sailing Club has existed in a variety of forms for over 60 years. Founded in 1958 as a sailing club, initially on another lake, we have experienced many changes that have happened to our local area of Ringwood and the New Forest. In the world of watersports it has been a continuous journey as dinghy sailing has evolved and new activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing have become a part of what happens at Blashford Lake with Spinnaker Sailing Club.

The initial work was done by longtime club member, and former Commodore, John Clarke, to whom we are eternally grateful. His work was transcribed onto Word by Roy Price, our ex-Treasurer. In 2023/4 a huge amount of work was done by several longstanding club members to remember, record and discover the history of Spinnaker Sailing Club so it could be shared. At the bottom of this page is the first publication of what they have created. As a sailing club, we are the experiences of our members, and we hope this history will grow over the coming years both as new memories are made but other members and former members share their stories with us.

If you have any memories or photos you are happy to share with us for them to become a part of our history, please email them to commodore@spinnakerclub.co.uk.
