Model Yachting
We are very excited to be launching model yacht sailing as a club supported activity in 2026!
With easy access to the Blashford Lake via our shore and pontoons, our freshwater environment is a great location for new or experienced model yachters! It's really easy to get involved. If you are an existing annual member of Spinnaker Sailing Club (not including training or social members) then you just need to pay a £10 "Model Yachting Association Membership Fee" to enable you to use your own radio controlled boat. Otherwise, we have our brand new Model Yachting Adult Membership available for those who only want to use model yachts and our clubhouse. As we explore this new activity we are encouraging the use of the Dragon Force 65, a model yacht that can be purchased ready to go for less than £400, and to support members to try out this new activity we have purchased 3 x Dragon Force 65's, which are available for member's to hire.
Our model yachting runs on Thursday and Saturday mornings throughout the year, from 10.00 to 12.00. As this is a trial of a new activity, and a learning period for us as a club as we learn how to facilitate and enable model yachting it is really important everyone involved in model yachting reads the Model Yachting SOPs (available as a PDF document at the bottom of this page). How we enable model yachting is almost certain to change as we sail through 2026, and learn from our experiences!
