Why Spinnaker Is Great For Water Sports
Welcome to Spinnaker Sailing Club!
Spinnaker Sailing Club is an inland water sports club, primarily focused on dinghy sailing. We are located at Blashford Lake near Ringwood, Hampshire, on the western edge of the New Forest. The lake was originally a gravel pit before being modified to a Wessex Water reservoir. Since then it has become an area of phenomenal natural beauty and part of the 186 hectare Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve.
Being inland means that we have a very safe and convenient environment for sailing, with no tides or commercial shipping to concern us. We are relatively sheltered, allowing us to sail even in the strongest of winds - meaning we rarely have to limit our time on the water! We sail all year round, and have a comfortable clubhouse which looks out onto the lake. The clubhouse is also situated closely to the slipways, promoting maximum accessibility for teaching and lending a hand. All of these reasons lead to Spinnaker being an ideal place to learn to sail, and a wonderful location for children to get out on the water.
We are well known for our Team Racing, however we also have an extremely active Club Racing scene, as well as being a Royal Yachting Association recognised Training Centre. We are therefore able to offer a wide variety of services, enabling us to provide you with a tailored experience, no matter what you are looking to gain out of sailing. Our Club boats available for hire also range from stable beginner boats, to the faster and more advanced variety, including double-handed boats with spinnakers.
Kayaking and Stand up Paddle Boarding
Thanks to our surrounding forest, our lake is a beautiful place to explore via kayak or paddleboard. Due to the lack of waves learning to paddleboard couldn't be easier here! Spinnaker has a fleet of kayaks and paddleboards which are available for members to hire during opening hours.
As we are surrounded by land we are a safe option for inexperienced windsurfers to hone their skills, and on a windy day intermediate windsurfers looking to go for a smooth blast around without waves may also enjoy what we have to offer.
Despite our beautiful rural position we are conveniently located not far from the A31 and A338 and in easy driving distance of Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Salisbury and Winchester.
Please explore the website to find out more about what we provide, and contact the Club should you have any queries, or to book an appointment with a team member for a tour of the Club.
