Evening Talk - Nigel Barrow & Radio Controlled Sailing

Spinnaker Sailing Club at Blashford Lakes, Ringwood is delighted to invite all those interested in sailing and racing radio controlled yachts and in particular the Dragon Force 65 which is the favoured class on this lake.

Many of you will know Nigel Barrow either in his current successes on the racecourse in the IOM and DF95 classes, but this is only a fairly recent life choice and passion following many successful years in the dinghy and keelboat worlds.

Nigel started sailing in the International Cadet class and became both World and National champion in the mid seventies. This was followed by two International 470 Olympic campaigns only thwarted by the cancellation of British involvement in the Russian Games of 1980. Much successful sailing and racing followed this up to the Covid-19 pandemic when his focus changed to the new-to-him world for him of radio controlled sailing and boat building. This was a new challenge to Nigel and after the usual period of learning and adapting in a new sport he is now one of the leading sailors in the rapidly spreading and top quality fleets around the world.

Nigel has taken on the role of race officer for the MYA in which position he can encourage and bring his overwhelming knowledge in yacht and dinghy racing and for us now in radio controlled sailing.

This is a chance for us to delve into and enjoy an interesting and knowledgeable mind of an expert in his current passion of radio controlled sailing.

We are inviting everyone to a talk followed by a chance for questions starting at 7.15 for 7.30pm on the Wednesday 18th February at the club where there will be provision for drinks before and after the talk.

The club has more than adequate parking for those coming along.

To help gauge interest for this evening and help us prepare we ask that anyone who intends to join us registers at the bottom of this webpage. The talk is free but any drinks must be paid for by card.

We hope that you will take advantage of a unique occasion and once again for us to be able to show off the excellent facilities that the club offer for DF65 sailing.
