Rock Up and Race
"Rock Up and Play" is an initiative at Spinnaker Sailing Club to:
- Provide a pathway from learning to sail to participating in club racing
- Create a regular event that allows all members of a family to participate in club activities
- Create an opportunity for socialising among club members
Rock Up and Play will initially run as one session per week, on a 2-week cycle:
Week 1 Wednesday afternoon between 15.00 and 17.00
Week 2 Friday evening between 18.00 and 20.00
Rock Up and Play is composed of two elements:
- 1.Rock Up and Race (see below)
- 2.A rebranding/relaunch of Friday Club Night
Rock Up and Race is an RYA Pilot Project to find ways to reverse the decline in race participation. Spinnaker Sailing Club has been asked to run a pilot within the wider project. Further details and guidance about Rock Up and Race can be found in the attached RYA documents, however, a brief overview of how this activity would work at Spinnaker Sailing Club is below. A full set of instructions and supporting documentation will be created prior to the activity starting.
Outline of Activity:
- Run by a single member of club staff no volunteers required, but they are welcome to get involved.
- Rock Up and Race will be based around an hour of fun, informal racing run in club owned RS Zests, with a quick briefing beforehand, and a debrief with a drink afterwards. (See further details below of how Rock Up and Race will run.)
- All other club equipment will be available to hire during this period for members who want to go afloat but not be involved in Rock Up and Race.
- First Wednesday 15th April
- First Friday 24th April
- Initial run to last until mid-July
Cost to members:
- £2.50 per session (if using club equipment), paid on an adhoc basis
- Must be a Pay As You Go Member or Annual member
