Introduction

You are free to sail any dinghy on the lake as long as it is a monohull of less than 5 metres length and has a RYA Portsmouth Number no lower than a Fireball. However the Club has adopted certain classes (see section on) as particularly suitable for racing on the lake. Generally these are classes that have stood the test of time or that appear to be a good choice for the lake. The adopted classes are well suited to lake sailing and are relatively common. There are many advantages to sailing an adopted class, not least is access to a keen and friendly group of sailors who will help you make the most of the Club and your sailing. By sailing with boats of the same class it is easy to benchmark oneself and to see how one can improve.

There are literally hundreds of dinghy designs out there and as long as the boat has a PY and meets the above criteria you can race it at Spinnaker. We would suggest that trapeze boats are not well suited to the lake and the shape and orientation of the Lake mean that boats with asymetric spinnakers do not acheive their full potential.

The Class captains are always happy to give advice as is the Club's Senior Instructor.
