Winter Is Coming!
We know it's not what most of us want to hear, but colder and wetter weather is on the way, along with the darker mornings and evenings which have already arrived. As with every year this means a few things change for what is on offer at the club, and what we must all do to continue using the lake safely.
Winter Staffing:
Due to our full complement of staff this winter, and a high level of bookings we are delighted to let you know that the club will continue to be manned 7-days a week, all the way up to Saturday 21st December! Club staff will then return from their Christmas break on Monday 6th January, and from that point the club will be manned 6-days a week (Sunday to Friday) until mid-march when we will resume our usual 7 days a week!
Club Boat Hire:
Club boats will continue to be available to hire throughout the winter when staff are on site. Due to the earlier sunset times from November no club owned boats may be hired and on the water after 4pm.
Wetsuit/Drysuit Rule:
Due to the colder temperatures (both the air and the lake water) it is requirement that anyone sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing or windsurfing wears either a drysuit or a wetsuit (as a minimum of longjohn design with thermal insulating material and properties to shoulder height) from 1st November to 31st March inclusive of those days.
Last RYA Youth Sailing Course of 2024!
There's only a couple of weeks to go until October half term, and we still have space on our RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 & 2 Course. There are options to join for just two days to complete stage 1 or 2, or the full five days and work through both stages!
Topper Traveller
This Saturday is our Topper Traveller. We currently have 29 boats entered, including 4 from Spinnaker Sailing Club! This is a great event, and sailors can enter via this webpage up until 1200 on Thursday. 7 races are planned so it will be a full day of racing.
Please note due to the size and scale of this event no other activity on the lake will be permitted during racing.
Club Powerboats
You may notice a few changes with our powerboats over the next few weeks! Our final Searider (RIB 3) is being retired this week to be replaced with a new Humber Assault 430! With the substantial investment in our powerboat fleet over the last few years we now have a fleet of great boats which are fit for purpose, and no longer require the constant maintenance our older boats did!
Whilst we commission the latest addition to our fleet we have a slightly reduced fleet of boats available. Please check with a member of staff which boats are available if you are on safetyboat duty or your group has an agreement for use of powercraft which ones are available.
Product of the Week:
Our onsite chandlery stocks a great range of useful bits, so over the next few week's we're going to highlight a few of them!
First up are our Allen Racing Burgees. These are designed to go at the head of your mast to show the apparent wind angle as you sail forwards, and can also help you set your sail twist to allow for a slightly different wind angle at the top of your mast, and see when you are "sailing by the lee". We can also separately supply the clips to attach these to your mast, and even fit them for you. Check out our full range of products here.
