Winter is Coming!
Last week we spoke about the upcoming colder months, and in particular reminded members of the wetsuit/drysuit rule which kicks in from 1st November.
Can we please also remind members of the importance of ensuring boats are tied down to the chains beneath them to protect themselves and the boats around them. Remember most boat insurance policies will not pay out if a boat has not been securely anchored.
We are delighted to say that yesterday's wind caused very little disruption - with no boats blowing over, and only a few covers needing re-securing. We strongly recommend you consider how you can best leave your boat to avoid water pooling in it over the winter including ensuring your cover is secure and supported if necessary. We also strongly recommend sails are removed to avoid the local wildlife using them for warm, comfy bedding!
Topper Traveller
Our Topper Traveller on Saturday was a great success, with 29 boats taking part in 7 races per fleet (14 races were started altogether)! The results can be viewed on our website now, and a couple of our sailors are preparing the full report - look out for it soon!
Can Anyone Help?
We are looking for a kind member to help with SEO (search engine optimisation). If any member has experience in this area, or knows someone who does, please can they be in touch with Phil Tinsley on Commodore@spinnakerclub.co.uk. We are looking to ensure our website is easy to find, and shows up easily when searched for on the internet.
Also we would love to welcome some new members onto the Main Committee. At the upcoming AGM on the 8th December, there is an opportunity to join the main committee. We very much hope that is not onerous - we meet 10 times a year, mostly now on teams from home, but occasionally in person (with Fish and Chips!!). Ideally, we could do with a Club Secretary and a new/exiting member co-ordinator but general members are very welcome too. We are very keen to represent all the different types of members, and can only do that with a wide a spread of members as possible.
Firefly Sailing Opportunities
Our last two open meetings are rapidly approaching! Wehave the Twisted Tube Random Pairs Team Racing and our Firefly Open Meeting on the first weekend in November! You can both of these now, and there are only a few spaces for the Twisted Tube left.
Our Firefly sailors especially would love to see some members who normally sail other boats to join them, and we have 12 Fireflys available to hire this year! We are running a Firefly Training Day on Saturday 26th October, a perfect warm up! Booking is essential for this day, please see more details here.
Product of the Week
Kingfisher Evolution Dinghy Lite - we stock this dyneema cored rope in two colours, both 7mm in diameter. This rope is designed to minimise it's absorption of water, and is super light making it great for any sheets. With it's high strength dyneema core this rope can be easily tapered for additional weight savings such as on the clews of spinnakers and jibs.
If you're not sure how to taper ropes our staff team are more than happy to provide assistance!
