Friday Night Club Nights

It was fantastic to see a few more members at the club this Friday for Club Night! With the sunny weather here for the next couple of weeks we encourage all members to take advantage of the weather and our late night hire until 8.30pm!

New Volunteering Thursday Afternoons

In a new initiative we are going to be introducing Volunteering Thursday Afternoon! If you would like to give a couple of hours time to help the club keep on top of the grounds and various jobs then this is an ideal social time to get involved!

All equipment will be provided and we will have a range of tasks so you can pick one suited to you! Our first afternoon will be on Thursday July 21st. We'll be meeting at 1pm, for a couple of hours work, before tea/cold drinks afterwards in the clubhouse. For the first afternoon Neil our Lead Instructor and Hywel our Commodore will be there as well to help get things going!

Race Camp - 8th to 12th August

Our annual Race Coaching Camp for youth sailors is running from Monday 8th to Friday 12th August! This is a great chance for 5 days coaching with our expert team of instructors, and is the week before Parkstone Youth Week so a great warm up!

Book Race Camp Here!

Fish and Chip Supper

Our next Fish and Chips evening will be on Wednesday 20th July, with food collected for after racing as normal! An email will be sent out on Monday with details of how to book.

End of SYT Block 2

This Sunday is our final session of SYT Block 2! We look forward to seeing lots of young sailors on the water in the morning and would strongly encourage all our young sailors to stay and race in the final race of the Sunday Summer Pursuit Series! As we are nearing the end of this race series we will be reviewing all the handicaps for our young sailors, and if their personal rating is changing for the next series we will let them know this Sunday!

Don't forget we have Youth Supported Sailing running through July and August to help our newer sailors keep sailing regularly, and of course they are always welcome to join in club racing. Spinnaker Youth Training will then start again in September with Block 3!

Meet Our Welfare Officer

Did you know we have a Welfare Officer at Spinnaker Sailing Club? Her name is Ellie and she is responsible for ensuring the safeguarding of everyone who comes to the club! Read more about her below:

I learnt to sail at Spinnaker in a green Oppy called Grasshopper and then went on to crew in a national12 and in fireflies which led to getting involved in team racing. I really enjoyed team raced at uni and continued sailing on various teams up to having my son 3 years ago. We now enjoying taking him out on the Wanderer at spinnaker and look forward to taking our 4 month old daughter sailing soon.

I've had lots of safeguarding training over the years as a secondary school teacher. One of the most important things I've learnt is that if you ever have a safeguarding concern it is best to share. I monitor the safeguarding email address (welfare@spinnakerclub.co.uk) and manage all disclosures which may include liaising with the RYA or flag officers and club staff.

Any disclosures will be dealt with in line with our safeguarding policy.

Please feel free to email or catch me at the club.
