Club racing Underway - New Years Day

Published 09:56 on 3 Jan 2023
The 2023 Racing Season got underway at 1200 sharp on New years Day with the Annual Trophy Race.
Despite threatening considerably more pressure, in the event conditions were a pleasant, mild (ish) South Westerly of 10-15 knots.
Race Officer Michael Wilde set an upwind, downwind, reach, gybe, broad reach course re-familiarising the crews with the lake. To burn off the festive fare 6 laps were set so it was hard work.
Paul Harris in the Laser got off to a flyer on Port Tack and led the fleet for the first couple of laps. At which point, resident heavy air specialist Russ Morgan in the Standard Laser/ ILCA 7 got clear and played the shifty conditions skilfully to take the lead and the Trophy. Competing strongly were Robert Marshall in the Laser Radial/ ILCA 6, who by seconds held off strong challenge from Paul Gray's Solo.
In the Juniors Bede's Topper skills take the Trophy ahead of Matthew and Thomas who practiced multiple broad reach gybes in the Club Feva.
After this good season opener, and thanks in particular to all race marshalls, crews returned to the Clubhouse for refreshment. Full race results under Sailwave tab.
This year's programme is packed with 12 months of racing of all formats. Club boats are available to hire and fleet captains and Club Staff James and Neil will be glad to help get you started.
