8 Hour Endurance Race!

We are due to hold our 8 Hour Jubilee Endurance Race on Saturday 4th June! Currently our entries to this event are very low, and it is at risk of cancellation unless we have at least 7 more entries by 9am on Wednesday 25th May!

If you have any questions about this event please speak to James Oborne!

SYT Pizza Tea!

This Sunday is Week 6 of Spinnaker Youth Training Block 1 of 2022! It has been fantastic to see so many young sailors out on the lake every Sunday, both for the training sessions in the morning, and with 14 then having stayed on to take part in racing in the afternoon!

This Sunday we are planning on having Pizza after the first race at 2pm in the clubhouse! If your child would like to join us there is a small charge of £3 to cover the pizza and cake! Please book and pay at the link below, it would be great to start May Half Term, and end Block 1, with as many young sailors as possible racing! Bookings will close at 5pm on Friday.

Memorial Race 2022!

As many of our members will know every year we hold the Memorial Race for the Geoff Fardell Trophy in aid of Macmillan Caring Locally, a local hospice provider. This year the race is on Wednesday 15th June. Simon Walworth, one of our former Commodore's, has kindly agreed to return as Race Officer for this event, and we will be having fish and chips after racing!

As usual fish and chips will be bookable via the website in the few days before the race. As this race is in aid of Macmillan Caring Locally we ask for a small donation to enter this race, and this can be made either via the Club Website, or in cash on the evening.

We hope to see as many members as possible joining in and supporting this great race, which last year was won by Keith Smith in his Solo, with Will H taking the win in his Optimist the year before, so everyone is in with a chance!

Swimming In The Lake

As the weather has warmed up recently it has been tempting for many of us to cool off in the lake. Whilst the Club does not wish to prevent anyone having fun can we please remind all members and users of Spinnaker Sailing Club that swimming is not permitted in the lake. This is one of the conditions of our lease agreement with Wessex Water that enables us to sail, kayak and paddleboard!

As well as the legal requirement for the no swimming rule, swimming in the lake does present a relatively higher risk compared to other activities we offer due to the large number of boats (including powerboats) in use, and there are fishing lines present near many of the lake shores as we share the lake with Christchurch Angling Club.

Clubhouse Improvements

Over the last 2 weeks a number of improvements and repairs have been made to our facilities. Last week the pathway around the front door was re-laid after a number of the paving slabs lifted, moved and were wobbling. Today the final two sections of our patio canopy are being installed to once again provide shade for the picnic benches, after the previous canopies were beginning to break.

Pay As You Go Memberships

It has been fantastic to welcome many new members to Spinnaker Sailing Club this year via our Pay As You Go Membership! We strongly suggest all Pay As You Go Members sign up for Go Cardless to allow easy collection of your monthly fees.

Our Pay As You Go Membership is for a minimum of 3 months (one month's notice must be given to end) and can these can be started at any time. They are a great way to try the club out and make use of the facilities! If you know anyone who might be interested please let them know about this new offering for 2022, and as always please speak to a member of club staff if you have any questions!
