Blashford Fun event

Sunday 27th August saw Spinnaker's annual Blashford Barrel event take place.

An overall funday comprising mixed watersports was laid on by Paul Gray, and included dinghy racing in the afternoon.

For the racing, the Club's James Oborne as race officer was ably assisted by a race crew including recent Byte National Champion Duncan.

With the notoriously tricky westerly wind to contend with the fleet knew to expect likely tricky conditions near the Club shore, and more feisty sailing on the Eastern side. So it turned out to be in the pleasant summer sunshine and 10-14 knots.

A fleet of 20 enjoyed the committee boat start. The three races showed variable preferred sides on the first beat. The solos and lasers dominated, and particularly enjoyed the planing opportunity on the broad reaches inside the figure of 8 course. In Race 1 a couple of seconds separated Ian's Solo from Keith's Radial, and that set the tone for the adult fleet front. In Race 2, the places inverted as Keith caught the fresh air. Peter May going well too. In Race 3 the fleet knew this would decide. Ian went committee end, Keith pin. Unfortunately one of the few weed clumps of the day found Keith's foils and Ian was away to windward.

In the juniors nice racing was had by topper, oppy mirror and zests. Well done Mae, Joe, Will and Jenny - Mae topping the leaderboard and first winner of the new Blashford salver.

Overall great racing for all and lots of in-fleet jousting and jostling.

The event concluded with Prizegiving for the Summer Sunday Series, Awards visible on the virtual cabinet on login. Full results are under the Results tab.

Next up is Wednesday's cup races and last evening of double racing for 2023.
