Frostbite series completed!

Published 13:09 on 14 Mar 2022

Sunday 13th March saw the Frostbite series completed in fresh, bracing sunny conditions.

Overall 27 crews entered the series - a great diversity of craft including zests, oppys, toppers, solos, lasers, fireflies and a wonderful Scorpion with the kite up.

This has been a consistently heavy-weather series. Races 1 & 2 were abandoned - and the Club's heavy-weather managed sailing implemented to help develop strong wind skills. The balance of the 8 races all experienced breezes of 10-20 knots and the Club's signature gusts and wind swings and veers.

Race 3 and 4 had only Russ and Matthew (Topper) make it out on the race track for a well-earned set of counting races.

In the slower fleet, highly commended is Lewis in the Oppy with 6 race finishes. Lewis battled around the weather to pilot 5048 to the win. Jasmine and Matthew in Toppers take the 2 & 3 places. Well done all juniors for tackling this series.

The faster fleet results show the dominance of the ILCA/ lasers of all varieties. Their skilled sailors have thrived in the Southerly winds allowing courses with broad planing reaches. Keith's neat line of podium finishes gives him the edge over Ian's 4.7 and Russ, resident heavy-weather expert just behind Ian.

All sailors have seen how important kicker & plate settings are in an effort to use enough but not too much wind. Sore hands and shoulders all round. Full results under the Tab.

It is thanks again to the race marshalls and safety cover crews for allowing us to have a safe, fun series.

Sunday 20th sees the Alice Lisle Cup series start with 3 races per day.
