What fantastic weather we are having for mid-November! It is definitely milder than some recent years, and this shows when we see how many members are still enjoying the lake, with a great turnout for the first two races of our Winter Series on Sunday.

2021 Prize Giving and Dedication of Noble Spirit

Our 2021 prizegiving will be a physical event at the Club following racing on Sunday 12th December. We hope as many members as possible will come along to celebrate the success' of our sailors this year, with prizes being awarded to sailors from 8 to adult!

We can also confirm that John Noble (one of our longest members who over the years has been a Trustee of the Club, lead our training programme, fixed the boats of other members while also being a regular sailor himself) will be attending the club on Sunday 12th December the official dedication, naming and launch of our "new to us" Club Solo! "Noble Spirit" as the new boat has been named was recently purchased by the club and refurbished by a number of Solo sailors to help members try out this popular class. This is a great opportunity for the club to show it's appreciation to John for everything he has done over the years, and we encourage everyone to come along.

We plan to having the dedication at 12.45 after racing on the pontoons by the clubhouse, with prizegiving afterwards, with the bar open for refreshments!

Lake Temperature

Please be aware that while the air temperature is mild, and the sea temperature is still relatively warm, the lake's temperature has dropped in the last few weeks by a very noticeable amount! Once wet our bodies will cool down much more quickly, and whilst we may feel adequately clothed in just a summer wetsuit and spray top when dry, this may not be true if we enter the water. Please consider this when dressing to go afloat at the moment.

Youth Training

This weekend saw loads of youth training, with 7 Optimists out (including one from Parkstone Yacht Club) at the lake on Saturday for our first session of the winter, while several of our Topper sailors travelled to Warsash Sailing Club for the first training weekend of the RYA Regional Training Group Programme! Next weekend our Topper sailors are off travelling again to Hill Head for the first weekend of the JETS Training Programme!

Social Sailing

It has been brilliant seeing so many members joining us on a Thursday morning for a social sail, including several new members! To help build the social aspect of this we will be offering free tea, coffee, and most importantly biscuits to all sailors at 12:00 in the clubhouse!

Shower Water Pressure

We are aware of an ongoing problem with hot water pressure in the clubhouse, meaning the showers are running cold. We have an engineer investigating the cause of this problem and are working to rectify this as quickly as possible. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Winter Wednesdays - Nick Craig 15th December at 7.30pm

Our next Winter Wednesday Talk is being delivered by Nick Craig, one of the UK's most successful amateur sailors, who is based at Frensham Pond, another gravel pit. Nick will be sharing us with his experiences, and hopefully some of his sailing tips after he showed his dominance when he raced at the club last winter in his Hadron!

Please reserve your space here!

Annual General Meeting

Don't forget our Annual General Meeting is on Sunday 5th December viz Zoom! You can see all the details in the member's area of the club website.
