Pothole Repairs
Thanks to our multi-talented instructor team the large pothole which had formed on the driveway leading to our North Car Park has been filled in and tamped down! This will make it much more comfortable towing boats in and out of the site for our members, as well as make a nicer space for members of the public using the footpath which runs along our boundary.
This pothole was formed largely due to members and users of Spinnaker Sailing Club driving too fast along the drive for the loose surface of the drive/car parks. All members and users must keep to the strict 5mph speed limit of Spinnaker Sailing Club from the moment they leave the tarmac of Ivy Lane, until they return to the tarmac. As a guide 5mph is a fast walking pace. This will ensure the safety of all members/users/staff and help to preserve our site for the benefit of all.
RYA Training Courses
Our Summer Holiday Programme of RYA Training courses is in full swing and it has been fantastic to see so many people of all ages gaining new skills, including 5 adults who completed their RYA Level 1 Sailing course last weekend! Alongside this week's RYA courses we have our first Multiactivity Week for several years where young people have been able to experience sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, raft building and powerboating!
We have a few spaces left in the next few weeks, including on our Adult RYA Level 2 Sailing course this weekend! There's still time to book on, so please go to the website for more details.
Blashford Barrel
Our annual Blashford Barrel Fun Day is back again on Sunday 27th August! We have a fun filled day planned including:
- A timed treasure hunt from 11am to 12pm
- Two dinghy races from 1.30pm (briefing at 1.00pm
- A prize giving for our Summer Sunday races at 4.00pm
- A "Bring Your Own Food" BBQ from 4.30pm where the Main Committee will cook for you
- And of course our bar will be open!
This is a fantastic day and we strongly encourage all our members to come along and join in the fun!
Youth Sailing Success
The last few weeks have been very busy for our youth sailors. Matthew E recently competed in the Topper Worlds, qualifying for Gold Fleet in 16th place. Sadly things didn't quite line up for Matthew in the finals, but a huge well done for your efforts. This week it is the Topper Nationals with both Ava F and Matthew competing, good luck both of you!
Last week was the annual Parkstone Youth Week, with 14 of our young sailors participating (the largest entry from any club apart from the hosts)! One way to look at success as a club is to see how many trophies and prizes we can win, but to many of us involved on the Sailing and Main Committee a far more important indicator is how many people we can support in sailing and introduce to our fantastic sport. The week was incredibly challenging for the sailors and on-water support teams with strong winds and lots of rain. Despite the challenging conditions all our sailors had smiles on their faces and came away having had lots of fun, made new friends and learnt lots. We all look forward to next years event, and a big thank you to Parkstone Yacht Club for having us!
2024 Programme
Our Sailing Committee are currently fettling the programme for 2024 based upon feedback from this year, requests for specific events, and their own views on what has worked well/been popular.
We are a members club and we aim to make our programme appeal to as wide a range of members as possible. If you have any feedback about our programme, and we welcome feedback and suggestions, please do speak to a member of the Sailing Committee (you can see who they are on the noticeboard in the clubhouse).
