BUSA South Central Qualifiers

This weekend saw the University of Portsmouth Sailing Club host the BUSA South Central Qualifiers, with 2 days of action packed team racing! Of the 12 teams entered, 7 were from the 4 universities based at Spinnaker Sailing Club. Team Portsmouth did a great job planning and delivering the event, with 12 of their sailors also competing!

A big congratulations to Wessex Sailing Club (University of Southampton) who secured 2 places in the top 3 giving those teams automatic entry into the Finals, with their third team getting a second chance to make it to finals via the upcoming playoffs!

Club Security Codes

Last week our gate codes, and front door codes were changed. Going forwards these codes will be changing monthly due to our new Pay As You Go Membership offering. If you did not receive the codes last week this meant that when the codes were changed your membership had expired. As in the email with the codes last week can we please remind all members of the below:

  • Do not share these codes with anyone, if an individual claims to be a member who doesn't know the codes please direct them to James or Neil.
  • If you are unlocking the car park gates please relock the padlocks (even if the gate is left open) and scramble the combinations.
  • Please remember we are now at the time of year when many former members have not renewed their membership, it is membership which grants access to the site to use the lake and facilities.

Club Racing Resumes

This Sunday sees our club racing programme resume, with the first 2 races of the Frostbite Series! The first start is at 10.30, with the two races being run back to back.

Club Duties

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for their duty slots so far. Next week we will be reviewing all duty volunteers for the entire year, and also begin allocating duties to ensure we have given sufficient notice to everyone when their assistance is required.

If you have dates or duties you would prefer to do we recommend volunteering sooner rather than later!

Club Office - Manned Times

We have had several members enquire recently about when the club office is manned. The answer is it varies week to week! Under the previous club staffing structure in place up to 2020 the club had a dedicated administrator who worked 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday in the office.

As part of the restructuring of the club over the past two years to give us greater flexibility and more efficiency we now have James, Neil and Candace employed permanently. Candace works part time supporting our Club Treasurer James C with the finances. James O (our Chief Instructor) and Neil (our Lead Instructor/Administrator) both work full time in the Summer period, with reduced hours in the winter period. James and Neil's work covers everything from administering our memberships, to delivering lessons, to maintaining the site/boats and even cleaning the clubhouse! James and Neil's working pattern varies through the winter based upon what activities and events the club is supporting, what maintenance needs doing, and what the administration priorities are.

If you need to get in contact with any club staff the most reliable way is via email, and emails will be responded to as soon as possible.

Membership Renewals

For those of you who have Annual Memberships these expire every year on 31st December. Thank you to everyone who has renewed, or got in touch with the office to amend any details relating to your membership.

We are in the process of contacting everyone who has a boat on site who has not renewed their membership, with membership being required to store a boat at the club. If you are not renewing your membership and berth then your boat(s) must be removed from the club.

If you have not renewed your annual membership yet, or got in touch with the office to amend your membership then from next week you will stop receiving our regular newsletters and other updates from the club.

Please feel free to get in touch with James or Neil if you would like to discuss your membership options.

Training Opportunities

We are coming up to the time of year when we have more training opportunities available again, with RYA Courses, Ladies Sailing restarting, and our other programmes of regular training/instruction! All of these can be booked via the website, and our team of staff are always happy to provide advice about which courses/training are best for you or your family to join in with.
