Wetsuit/Drysuit Rule
Cooler autumn/winter weather is well and truly here now! Please consider how to keep yourself safe and comfortable whilst out on the water. From 1st November until 31st March each year it is a club rule that anyone on the water (other than in a powerboat) must wear a wetsuit or drysuit in addition to their buoyancy aid. However, just because we don't require a wetsuit/drysuit for another few days it may be worth starting to wear one before that!
We would also take this opportunity to urge any duty volunteers to ensure they are appropriately clothed for duties. If you speak to our instructor team they will say they get coldest when sat in the safety boat (not when they're sailing).
Building Work
We are expecting Wessex Water to begin building our new washdown station (to help control Invasive Non-Native Species) next week! This will cause some minor disruption around the area club boats are stored in over the next 2 months, but will not prevent any normal activity from taking place.
Winter Race Programme
As we move into November we change the time of our Sunday Club Racing to avoid the darker evenings. For our Winter Handicap Series through November/December the 1st race each day will start at 10.30, with the second race straight afterwards.
Please note that for Remembrance Sunday on 9th November the first race will start at 11.15 to allow for everyone to observe the 2 minutes silence ashore, before launching.
Firefly Weekend
Our annual Firefly Weekend is this weekend on 1st and 2nd November. Saturday see's the Twisted Tube, an incredibly fun Random Pairs Team Racing Day, whilst Sunday is our Firefly Open Meeting, always a great day of close quarters racing. The Twisted Tube is now fully booked but there are still spaces (and club boats) available for the Open Meeting on the Sunday!
Please note there will be no club racing this weekend, and we ask that members do not go afloat during these events unless participating.
How to Stay In Touch
Don't forget a really good way to stay in touch with other members is our Whatsapp Community, there are different groups within the community for each of our main classes, as well as the SYT Parents Group and a Kayaking/Paddleboarding Group.
