Wessex Winter Warmer 2022

This weekend the club hosted the Wessex Winter Warmer, an event we traditionally host on the last weekend of January, organised by Wessex Sailing Club (Southampton University). Due to Covid-19 restrictions the event last ran in 2020, and so it was brilliant to see it return this year!

20 teams of 6, from as far away as Dublin, Rutland and Cardiff joined us for a fantastic 2 days of sailing, with a total of 149 races run! Amongst the teams was one representing Spinnaker Sailing Club, with some special guest appearances from a former Bournemouth University Student, and Rob Sherrington who kindly stepped in when one of our helms was ill. The team did very well considering this was their first event competing togethers against some tough teams, with some brilliant sailing and a few race wins! It was very nice to see a few members pop down to watch the racing, and even a chance to reunite with a few former members as Steve Tylecote sailed representing Rutland!

2022 Membership Renewals

Thank you to everyone who has either renewed, or got in touch with the office with queries for us to help you with.

Don't forget the Early Bird Renewal Discount ends today at 5pm, so last chance to save a little bit on your membership! Later this week we will begin posting out the new 2022 car stickers, and next week (as long as it doesn't rain) we will begin applying boat parking permits!

Thursday Social Sailing

Last week saw on of our best turnouts yet for Social Sailing, with a range of Toppers, Solos, Wanderers and Lasers taking to the water in some beautiful sailing conditions!

We are going to be continuing this social session going forwards so if you can please come down and join in!

Club Boat Improvements

As we continue to gear up for the 2022 summer season we have taken delivery this week of 2 new Radial Sails, and 2 new tillers to upgrade and enhance our existing Club Lasers!

We also have new sails for our Toppers due in the next few weeks, and our Toppers are also being treated to a full re-rope with Kingfisher Ropes to get them ready for a busy summer!

Club Grounds Improvements

As well as our ongoing work to prepare the club dinghies for the busy summer, we are also taking advantage of the mild winter to carry out some improvements on the club grounds!

In addition to the work on the central island to improve the windflow we have also started the task of replacing the fendering, cleats and external bolts on our modular pontoons! You can see the work we have started on the end of the pontoon nearest the race hut. Once that pontoon is re-secured we will be moving onto the most northerly pontoons by where the Solos and Universities launch!

Club Racing Programme

For those of you itching to get back to club racing there is just a little longer to wait until our Frostbite Series starts on 13th February! Don't forget there is no club racing this Sunday as we are hosting the BUSA South Central Team Racing Qualifiers organised by University of Portsmouth Sailing Club!
