Storm Damage

Good news, electricity has been restored to the club! Apart from it meaning we have lights, and can get on with some of the maintenance to boats again, the all important coffee machine and kettle are working again!

Having completed a site walk yesterday all boats are upright and on their trolleys. However, we continue to recommend owners check their boats and ensure they are securely tied down.

RYA Dinghy Show

This weekend see's the RYA Dinghy Show in it's new home at Farnborough!

Keith our Laser/ILCA Captain has suggested any members who are going to the show on the Saturday meet up at around 2pm at "The Clubhouse" as a chance to say hello to each other, share any bits which you advise seeing before leaving, and see who has got the best freebies!

Staff Training

As we get ready for a great summer of activity this week 5 of the Club's instructors, plus 2 of our members are on training courses to boost their qualifications ready for the busy training season ahead! This ranges from Double Handed Dinghy Instructor Endorsements (a necessity after Covid restrictions interrupted new instructor training), Race Instructor training and an Introduction to Umpiring course to better support racing (and in particular team racing) at the club.

This extra training means we will have a top quality team ready to continue offering high quality tuition and training throughout 2022 and beyond.

8 Hour Endurance Race

Hopefully everyone saw our announcement of our 8 Hour Endurance Race on Friday! The Sailing Committee are very excited about this event and cannot wait to see the lake filled with boats for it! We already have two entries, an Albacore and a Topper!

Please remember we will rely heavily on volunteers to make this event work so please get in touch with the office if you are able to help either on shore on safety cover!

RYA Training Courses

We have an exciting package of RYA Training Courses lined up for 2022 for our members to take part in. While we are running some Powerboat courses in March, the programme really starts in April as we head into the school Easter Holidays. Spaces are starting to book up and we are receiving enquiries on a daily basis so if you or your children would like to be on a course we advise booking soon!

Ladies Sailing Returns

Don't forget Ladies Sailing returns from next week! For the first block we have an Improvers and Advanced group, before our Beginners group restarts after Easter. Ladies please sign up this week so we can make sure we have enough instructors lined up!

Race Duties

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered for a race duty (or duties) for 2022.

Through 2020 and 2021 due to the uncertainty caused by lockdowns the Duty Roster was filled up on an ad-hoc basis, and I am sure you will remember the many last minute please for help to support our very popular racing programme. For 2022 to help with planning, and allow a better use of Sailing Committee and Staff time we are reverting to a more planned method of managing race duties. Over the next few days we will be allocating duties to members, with the aim of confirming all duty slots up until mid-July in the next two weeks. This will allow us to then focus on delivering activity throughout the year, rather than reactively looking for Race Officers and Safetyboat Teams.

Save the Dates!

There are several events coming up at the club that we would like to highlight to all members.

- Saturday 12th March - Work Party - A team effort to help us get the site ready for the coming summer! All help is greatly appreciated, for further details please see last week's newsletter.

- Sunday 3rd April - Pre-Rig Morning - Did you get some new boat bits for Christmasa you haven't fitted yet, or need to do a little repair, or need a buoyancy test signing off (Optimist sailors)? Then this is the perfect opportunity. James and Neil will be around in the morning to give help and advice in getting your boats out and ready for the summer. Why not stay on and join Club Racing afterwards for a proper shakedown of your boat (and see if those winter upgrades can help you get around the course faster)!

- Wednesday 6th April - Pre-Race Wednesday Evening - Our annual social evening before Wednesday Racing starts! This is a great opportunity for new members to meet other in the club, learn about how our race programme works and ask any questions you may have to get the most out of the Club!
