URGENT SAFETY NOTICE NO SWIMMING IN THE LAKE

Published 12:59 on 11 Aug 2020

PLEASE READ AND NOTE THIS NOTICE CAREFULLY.

Safety of all our members and staff is our highest priority.

Recently with the hot weather and holiday season there has been a marked increase in the number of children swimming from the pontoons and slipways.

While this is fun and refreshing it is potentially extremely dangerous.

An outboard engine can kill or maim a human in the blink of an eye. This is something that must be prevented at all costs.

Another issue is that our lake, like many freshwater lakes, contains significant quantities of blue-green algae and it is generally considered inadvisable to ingest these organisms.

We appreciate that this appears to be negative, killjoy and "jobsworth", but safety has to drive everything that we do.

In addition we must remind everyone that not only do our bylaws forbid swimming in the lake, but so does our lease from Wessex Water.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WESSEX WATER HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO CLOSE US DOWN IF WE DO NOT ABIDE BY THE TERMS OF OUR LEASE.

We do not wish to be heavy handed but if this behaviour is not addressed voluntarily Spinnaker Club may have to enforce its byelaws.
