Cuckoo Fair and Open Day 2026!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Club's stand at the Cuckoo Fair on Saturday and our Open Day yesterday. Fortunately we were blessed with great weather for both days, resulting in our best Open Day in recent years with well over a hundred visitors heading out onto the lake!
Without the support of the volunteers across both days we would not have had such a great opportunity to share what our club can offer. A special mention has to be given to Katie for helping almost all day at the Cuckoo Fair, stepping in as Assistant Race Officer on Sunday afternoon, and then almost singlehandedly running the reception desk at the Open Day yesterday!
Rock Up And Race
Rock Up and Race is all about fun, friendly, easily accessible dinghy racing. This week's session is on Friday, and we may have the RYA joining us to film the session! We'd love to see a few more people give this session a go, so why not try it this Friday?
Book on for this week's session here!
Children's Birthday Parties
We've recently had a couple of members enquire about whether they can have their child's birthday party at Spinnaker Sailing Club, and this is something we can absolutely help with! Please email James (training@spinnakerclub.co.uk) for more information!
BDSRA Southerns This Saturday
This Saturday (9th May) we are hosting the BSDRA Southern Championships, a day of team racing in Fireflys organised by Winchester College! This is always a great day, with some incredible racing to watch, so why not come and see why some of our members love team racing so much!
Please note that the lake is closed for general usage this Saturday due to the scale of this event.
A Message from Steve our Model Yachting Captain
The model yachting at Spinnaker based around the Dragonforce 65 is gaining momentum. It won't be long until we have twenty members and regular turnouts on the start line are around half of that number. This encouraging interest mirrors what is happening at other clubs in the UK and around the world and reflects the increasing age of the dinghy sailing fraternity.
We sail in two hour sessions when we expect to run around ten race starts with a one minute countdown. This is a chance to meet new friends on the Bankside and enjoy all the fun and excitement that all sailing provides. We are a mixed group of expertise in radio controlled sailing and many of us are dipping our toes in learning the skills so all sailors including those who haven't sailed at all are more than welcome to give it a go. Help and support is there to get things started.
The club has three 65s for hire and after that if a purchase of a new boat is chosen then the layout for a fully prepared race ready boat is around the £300 mark.
