Fish and Chips This Week!

This Wednesday (27th September) is our final evening of racing for 2023 as the nights are sadly getting longer, and the days shorter!

The final race of our Twilight Series will start at 17.45, to finish around 18.30. Fish and Chips will be delivered to the club for 19.15. Following fish and chips there will be a short prize giving to wrap up our Wednesday racing for 2023, and of course the bar will be open for drinks!

Food must be pre-ordered by 1200 on Wednesday 27th September, through this page on our website!

Work Party - Tuesday 17th October

The hedge between the public footpath and our dinghy park at the south end (near the Sea Cadets Shed) has grown quite tall over the last few years. One of our aims this winter, as part of our plan to manage the vegetation around the site, is to lower and thin this hedge. We are intending to have a first day of work on this hedge on Tuesday 17th October. If you are able and willing to assist please email training@spinnakerclub.co.uk and we will put together a plan!

Winter Is Coming!

After a summer with regular spells of very light wind many of us are welcoming the autumn low pressures, with the increased wind they bring, and some fantastic sailing recently. However, this does mean we all need to consider how we can look after our boats as we move through autumn and into winter. Here are a few of our top tips to help look after your boat:

- Don't keep your sails under your cover! Our local wildlife likes to use the material to make nests
- Don't leave your sail furled around your mast - it can unfurl in strong winds and will get damaged if this happens.
- Make sure you cover is secure
- Remove your hatch covers and let the boat breathe
- Make sure your self bailers are open (no one wants a frozen puddle in their boat when they want to sail)

RYA Training Courses in October Half Term

We have several RYA courses planned for October half term including an RYA Youth Stage 3 & 4 Sailing Course and an RYA Youth Seamanship Skills and Sailing with Spinnakers Course! These can both be booked now via our club website.

Solent Sea Scout Regatta

Don't forget this Saturday is the Solent Sea Scout Regatta, with over 100 scouts from our local area taking part in sailing, kayaking and rowing races! Due to the scale of this event the lake will be closed for general access between 9am and 5pm.

Upcoming Open Meetings

Don't forget we have 3 more open meetings this year! Details including how to enter are at the links below:

RS Aero Open - Saturday 7th October

Twisted Tube Random Pairs Team Racing and Firefly Social - Saturday 4th November
