Eric Twiname Youth & Junior Team Racing Championships 2022!
Last weekend 4 of our members - Ed, Max, Jas and Ava headed off to Oxford Sailing Club for a weekend of 2-boat Feva Team Racing in the ET Junior Team Racing Championship! For 3 of our team this was their second year at the event, and after lots of fun (but no race wins) last year they were eager to return and see how they could improve!
Day 1 saw a tough day, but with our first race win of the weekend! This meant that for Day 2 our team were seeded into the Bronze League, allowing a day of competition against similar level teams. After getting used to the boats and the competition on the first day Stage 2 of the competition saw Team Spinnaker win 5 of their 8 races, claiming 4th overall within the Bronze League!
A mention also has to go to the school teams we work with who entered, Bryanston School and Winchester College were both sailing in the Silver League of the Youth Competition in Fireflys, with Bryanston claiming 1st Place in Silver League at their first ever major event! Milton Abbey who are the newest school we work with also entered and put up a good effort after only a few weeks training in the Bronze Fleet of the Youth Competition.
Race Duties
Thank you to everyone who has supported our racing programme so far. However, we do still need some more help!
In particular we are looking for an Assistant Race Officer for this Sunday, our Race Officer Mike is a long standing member so there is a great chance to be the ARO with an experienced member.
We are also looking for volunteers throughout our Frostbite and Icicle Series. As with last winter if you sail in these series' you must perform at least one race duty in support of them.
Last SYT Session for 2022
Our final SYT coaching session of 2022 is this Sunday! We hope to see all our sailors out on the water, and then taking part in the Pursuit Race! As it is almost Halloween we are also encouraging our younger sailors (adults are of course welcome to join in this bit) to decorate their boat with Halloween as the theme!
After the Pursuit Race we will be having Pizza in the clubhouse at 2.30pm! Please pre-order food for your junior sailors at the link below!
Endeavour Trophy 2022!
A massive congratulation to Duncan and Lorna Glen for their performance in the Endeavour Trophy at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club last weekend!
The Endeavour Trophy is an invitational event, where every competitor has won a National Championship in the preceding 12 months. Racing is in RS200s, and is always of a top class with high profile names such as Steve Cockerill, Nick Craig and Tom Morris regular competitors (with Tom winning this year).
With 30 entrants Duncan and Lorna placed 11th overall! Well done both of you!
How To Stay In Touch
As the weather cools off many members will spend less time at the Club. (We will miss you!) There are lots of ways to stay in touch with the Club and other members. There are several Whatsapp Groups including ones for Solo Sailors, Laser Sailors, SYT Parents and Team Racers! If you would like to be added to any of these please speak to the appropriate Class Captain or the office team!
Of course we also have our Facebook Page and Instagram as well!
