Covid-19 Update

The Management Committee of the Club met last night, with Covid-19 mitigations, policies and procedures being one of the main agenda items.

In July the UK Government announced the move to Step 4 of the Spring Roadmap, with all legal Covid-19 restrictions that affected Spinnaker Sailing Club being lifted. At that point, with the Summer holidays just beginning the Club's management took a conservative approach, and many of the Covid-19 mitigations were kept in place to ensure the safety of all members, users and staff of the club.

Last night we reviewed our current policies, and feel now is the time we can take some further steps in our own unlocking process of returning to more normal ways of using the Club's facilities.

With effect from today the wearing of face coverings within the communal areas of the Clubhouse is no longer mandatory. However, we know many members remain nervous, and there is still a high number of cases throughout the UK, and we ask and encourage all members and users to continue wearing face coverings when in these areas to help protect each other.

With effect from 1st October we will also be permitting the use of the showers in the changing rooms again. As the showers have not been used in over 18 months we have some cleaning and preparation to do before they can be used. Using the showers, and therefore remaining in a hot humid atmosphere for longer, will present n increased risk of transmission of Covid-19, and we ask individuals to consider this when deciding whether to shower.

The front galley will remain closed for general access. With only staff and other pre-authorised individuals permitted access for pre-approved events.

The club's website will be updated with these changes this week.

Final Wednesday Night Race of 2021!

Tomorrow sees the final race of our 2021 Twilight series! With gentle winds, and a sunny forecast, it should be great final evening. It would be great to get as many boats as possible afloat, and a couple of the instructors are even going to be out in club boats! We are also going to have the bar open for one final summer's evening!

We are also still looking for an ARO for tomorrow, so if anyone is willing to volunteer this would be hugely appreciated! With Tom Clay as Race Officer it will be a great opportunity to learn from an experienced racer!

Regional Junior Championships

After several of our young sailors joined in our Optimist Open on Sunday, this weekend even more are heading off to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy to take part in the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships and Onboard Fun Fleet! It looks like we are going to have a great weekend, in a fantastic venue! Look out for news and pictures of how we get on!

Firefly Weekend

You can now book onto the Club's Firefly Weekend for the Twisted Tube on the Saturday and the Firefly Open on the Sunday!

Club boats are available to hire so there is no reason not to join us for two exciting days of racing!

You can book on via the calendar on the club website.

Winter is coming!

While the weather is wonderful at the moment autumn and winter are just around the corner.

In advance of the cooler and less settled weather arriving can we please remind all members that:

  • From the 1st November a wetsuit or drysuit must be worn whilst sailing, windsurfing, kayaking or paddleboarding on the lake.
  • Sails left in boats can make ideal nests for small furry animals, and we strongly suggest sails are removed from boats during the autumn and winter period.
  • With stronger winds comes an increased risk of boats tipping over whilst ashore, please ensure your craft are secure

If you would like any further advice about keeping yourself and you boat safe over the winter please feel free to ask the advice of James, Neil or Justin at the club.
