Boat Park Update
Published 11:39 on 29 Apr 2020
The Club is delighted to report that despite the current lockdown, work to sort out the boat park is progressing well. James Oborne our new Chief Instructor and Bosun has installed a great number of new berth tags, and set up the newly improved Oppie storage area. Phil Tinsley has completed the lengthy task of successfully linking club members to their boat(s) and their berths. This has involved re-establishing the berth numbering and tag system. The tags are on the chain under your boat, along the centreline of the berth. We also have new paid for stickers for the boats.
So as of 25th April we have 259 accounted and paid for boats on site, and at the very maximum only 39 unpaid for/unaccounted for boats most of which are long abandoned and unusable. This is a very heartening situation for club members, as we all now know that we are not paying for others to store and sail boats at the club, which is as it should be.
Please can we ask you to take steps to name or number your trolley and trailer, as this is a useful tool for the club management, and a safety benefit to you. James (and Phil) have paint pens to allow you to permanently ID your property.
We have also taken this opportunity to encourage clumping of classes together so in addition to the Oppie, Solo and Laser areas, we now have Topper, RS Vision, Enterprise, Wanderer, Wayfarer, Pico/Tera/Q'ba/Topaz, Mirror, Aero and Fevaclasses areas. Bournemouth University Sailing Club has joined the other team racing group members at the far north end of the boat park beyond the Solos. Some of these moves await the end of the lockdown, as James is not an Olympic weightlifter and needs assistance! This is all good news we hope.
Please note that the new numbering system is not the same as the previous one and that your boat may not be where you are expecting it to be. We will be producing a map of the park soon.
We all hope that we can all return to sailing as soon as it is safe to do so. Plans are well advanced for lots of events and activities once the club re-opens.We think that you will be impressed with all Phil and James' hard work.
Stay safe.We will be back sailing before too long.
