Two Weekends of Epic Team Racing Coming Up!
Over the next two weeks we have some awesome team racing events being hosted and delivered by Spinnaker Sailing Club! On 16th/17th March we have the RYA/BUSA Women's Team Racing Championships (with this also being the newly named Spinnaker Sloths' first event), followed by the RYA National Team Racing Championships on 23rd/24th March.
These events are being delivered by a team of club volunteers with volunteer umpires coming into support, with kSail Events providing event services including live results for both weekends.
Due to the scale of these events the lake will be closed for general activities during racing. However, we would encourage you to come down and watch some of the most competitive racing in the country!
The New Ovington Firefly
The National Firefly Association and Ovington have kindly loaned us the demo Ovington Firefly (as seen at the RYA Dinghy Show). It will be with us from Saturday 16th March for several weeks. It looks similar to the Rondar Fireflys but has had a few tweaks made. If you would like a test sail please speak to James to arrange this.
Getting Ready For The Summer
This week our staff team have been preparing our fleet ready for a busy summer sailing season. Our Topper fleet have been re-rigged with new cunninghams, mast collars/goosenecks and a general once over!
As part of our ongoing works to improve the wind flow across the lake this week a large poplar tree was removed from behind the sheds. This will help improve windflow across the lake in a westerly, as well as remove the risk of this tree falling over following it being assessed as high risk by a tree surgeon. More works to the trees along our western boundary are planned this year, look out for more news soon.
Easter Holiday Courses, Let's Go Sailing and SYT
There's only a few months to go until the Easter Holidays, when our training programme for 2024 really gets going. We have a range of 2 and 5 day courses running across the Easter Holidays, and at the end of the school holidays our Let's Go Sailing (Adult Improvers) and Spinnaker Youth Training sessions restart!
