RYA/BUSA Women's Team Racing Championships 2024
This weekend we hosted the RYA/BUSA Women's Team Racing Championships with 14 team representing sailing clubs, universities and schools competing across two days, including our very own "Spinnaker Sloths." Saturday saw a total of 70 races being completed in Stage 1 of the event, with a near perfect breeze (once it arrived at 10am). Sunday saw slightly more blustery conditions providing a great challenge for all the teams with a total of 56 races sailed between Stage 2 and the Knockout Stages. RHS Blue came away victorious as 1st Overall and 1st Under-19 Youth Team after a nail biting final best of five final against Girls Afloat who claimed second place, with Cambridge University claiming 3rd place overall and 1st University Team.
You can see the full results here.
This was the Spinnaker Sloths first event together after only 1 team training session. Made up of a mixture of mums and "university alumni" they came together to take part in this event. Our team started Saturday off with a win in their first race, and went onto win 3 of their 10 races on day one, qualifying them for Silver Fleet in Stage 2. In Stage 2 they won two of their 6 races, meaning they ended up 5th in Silver Fleet and 12th Overall. However, results are only half the picture. The team were smiling all weekend, had great fun, learnt lots and want to sail more! Lookout for more news soon about opportunities to join them team racing.
A huge thank you and well done to the team who made this event happen, the feedback from competitors and visitors has been fantastic.
This coming weekend sees the RYA National Team Racing Championship (commonly known as UKTRA) taking place at Spinnaker Sailing Club.
Clubhouse Improvements Update
Last week saw most of the equipment removed from the rear galley, and tomorrow the gas feeds are being capped and the sinks removed. Tomorrow James and Hywel are also meeting a contractor to discuss Stage 2w of the work which will see our existing front galley improved and also equipped to function as our bar!
