Topper Traveller Report

Sunday 27th March saw us host our annual Topper Traveller! It was a great day of sailing, with 27 toppers racing in warm, sunny weather! Amongst the fleet were 7 of our younger sailors from Spinnaker, with several pushing to make it to the front of the fleet!

Change to Alice Lisle Race Series Timings

Following feedback, and to make better use of the early afternoon wind we normally experience, the start times for the first race of the day has been moved to 11.30am, this only affects the Alice Lisle Handicap Series. This will also result in a slightly shorter break between the first and second races of the day.

Wednesday Evening Pre-Race Meeting - Wednesday 6th April, 7.30pm

On Wednesday 6th April at the Club we have our new members welcome and our seasonal pre-race evening. We encourage as many members as possible to come and join us!

Starting 1930, we'll have a welcome from the Commodore Hywel, Rear Commodore Sailing Tom and Club Chief Instructor James.

There will be introductions to the sailing committee and the class captains. There is an overview of the club racing programme by Les, the Sailing Instructions and how our pursuit race format works. For lots more info please check out the Club's racing tab on the intranet, and these 2 new 2022 videos - sailing instructions and pursuit racing. Most of all there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

So that your well fed beforehand from 1900, and with the bar open, we are arranging a fish and chip takeaway. Please commit to your orders via the club website. We will be accepting orders from 9am on Friday 1st April through to 9am on Monday 4th April. An email with the link to order your food on Friday at 9am.

Birds Nesting on the Island

Following the recent works to the island not only has the wind flow improved across the lake but ground nesting birds are also making use of the open space created! Please can we remind all members that landing is prohibited on the islands to help support our local wildlife.

(As a bonus the geese seem to be making less mess on our pontoons as they are sitting on the islands!)

A Message from New Forest and District Sailability

Please see the message below from Malcolm, the Chairman of New Forest Sailability.

New Forest Sailability is a very active Group Member of Spinnaker, whilst having its own membership, management and financial organisation as a registered charity. We provide recreational sailing to people of all disabilities and ages and have a wealth of information on our website www.newforestsailability.co.uk

We are keen to encourage more involvement from Spinnaker members, their families and friends:

Sail or introduce a sailor
We are always keen to welcome new sailor members and can cater for nearly all forms of disability and all ages. Thus if you know of anyone with a disability, regardless of whether they have sailed before or not, please introduce them. We are very happy to offer people a taster session to see if they like it and for family or carers to see how we operate.

Volunteer
Likewise we have a continuing need for new volunteers and have a wide range of roles that need no prior experience and can suit most people, with or with a disability. These roles broadly fall into the categories of reception, pontoon, rigging, skipper, safety boat, maintenance and management. Volunteers do as little or as much as they wish, with many doing a morning a week, but not necessarily every week, some less and many an awful lot more.

Contacts and links
If you would like to find out more contact our Chairman:
Malcolm Bentley
Mobile: 07803 188200
Email: malcolmksbentley@gmail.com

Or just come to Spinnaker on a Tuesday or Friday and speak to reception, who can explain more or introduce you to someone that can, probably the Officer Of the Day or a committee member.
