We are very sad to announce that our Lead Instructor Abi is leaving us to take up a new role as the Chief Instructor for a children's sailing charity at one of their sites! She has been a valuable member of our team and we will sorely miss her enthusiasm, skills and knowledge while wishing her well for the future in her exciting new role which is a great step forwards for her as she continues to grow and develop following her chosen career path.

This means we are now looking for a new Lead Instructor to join our team!

Below is a brief job description, along with the basic package on offer. This is a full-time permanent role, and we are looking to fill it before our main training season begins in April. Overview:

The Lead Instructor is a vital part of the Spinnaker Sailing Club staff team, working to deliver high quality activities to our members and users. As a sailing club which is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and holds an AALA Licence we work with multiple local schools and youth organisations as well as our members. We have a varied programme of training activity ranging from taster sessions to RYA training courses to regular and one off race coaching sessions, as well as our social and racing programmes. Our racing programme encompasses handicap and pursuit racing for club members throughout the year, with a programme of open meetings for our most popular classes. We also host multiple team racing events each year including the Wessex Winter Warmer, BSDRA Southerns, and periodically host the National Team Racing Championships and BUSA Championships.

Primary Roles:

  • To provide instruction and coaching to members and users of Spinnaker Sailing Club
  • Lead on the delivery of Spinnaker Sailing Club provided vocational training to Apprentice Instructors
  • To provide safety cover to events and activities organised by Spinnaker Sailing Club
  • To support the racing programme of Spinnaker Sailing Club
  • To act as Duty Senior Instructor as directed by the Operations Manager

Secondary Roles as Required:

  • To support the Operations Manager in the maintenance of the Club fleet
  • To support Spinnaker Sailing Club in maintenance of the site grounds and buildings
  • To enable members to get the most out of their membership
  • Any other role as required by the Club appropriate to the experience and level of the employee

Essential Qualifications:

  • RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor
    and one of the below:
  • Paddle UK Paddlesport Instructor or equivalent
  • RYA Powerboat Instructor

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

  • RYA Race Coach Level 2
  • Experience of working with groups with SEN and other additional needs
  • Experience of Team Racing
  • RYA Start Windsurf Instructor

Salary: £26,780 per annum

Working Hours: Annualised hours to average 37.5 per week, worked on a rota basis, evening and weekend work is required
Annual Leave: 28 days including bank holidays
Benefits: Enhanced sick pay after 1 months service, CPD including funded NGB qualifications, free use of club equipment
