Commodore's Cup Race Evening

In a busy week for the Club dinghy racing, following Sunday's Blashford Barrel races, Wednesday evening saw the historic Commodore's Cup and Alice Lisle 1966 Trophy races take place.

After a blustery showery day, all arrived at the Lake to see a moderating South Westerly breeze with some warm sunshine.

The course was a full lake experience starting off the Race Hut line heading South, then across to a mark to start the long run down to the North of the Lake. All but one sailors went the far side of the Island. After a short spacer leg the second beat allowed further tactical use of the shifts.

The first Portsmouth Yardstick race ended at about 1830 followed by the Pursuit race ending just as the light was drawing in at 2000, and the wind feeling a little chillier.

All packed away and gratefully retired to the Clubhouse for a fish n chip supper and a prize giving for the 'on the night' and previous 10 week race series completed the week before.

Thank you all who officiated the racing, and as always Club staff support. The Commodore appropriately presented the prizes on his evening. Ian Matthews won the Commodore's Cup race, and long long standing member Hywel Morris the hard fought Pursuit race Alice Lisle cup. Joseph won both the Junior cups and the much longer Wednesday series awards with his brother Samuel picking up a 3rd place crewing in the beautiful enterprise in the Pursuit race. Full results are visible on the results area, and the online trophy cabinet has been updated, or look on your mantelpiece!
