2023 AGM and Winter Prizegiving

Don't forget our 2023 Annual General Meeting is on Sunday 3rd December! Come and join us to hear from our Main Committee about how 2023 has gone, and the plans for 2024 and beyond, as well as ask them any questions you may have! Following the AGM we will be having our Winter Prizegiving where our Sailing Committee will be presenting prizes for racing since August, and our annual achievement awards. As this year is Spinnaker Sailing Club's 65th birthday everyone who comes to the AGM will get a free drink to help us celebrate this milestone!

Full details can be seen in the member's area of our website at the link below. Alternatively you can access the AGM Information Page by logging into the club website, going to the "Portal" page, and scrolling down to the bottom.

Powerboat Training

We have a couple of powerboat training courses in November and December, with the last few spaces still available. We run our RYA Powerboat courses at a much lower price than commercial training centres to help develop our teams of safetyboat drivers and crew to support our activities.

Main Committee Vacancies

While we have a fantastic team of club staff who make things happen day to day, and provide excellent professional advice, it is our volunteer Main Committee made up of members who oversee and manage the club. This committee sets the direction and strategy of the club, and makes the important decisions in the interest of keeping the club running and providing the best value and experience to our members.

We are currently looking for members willing to volunteer some time to the Main Committee. We would also very much like to welcome another "general member" to the committee to broaden the views expressed, and provide another viewpoint. If you are interested in volunteering for the Main Committee please speak to the Commodore, Phil Tinsley - commodore@spinnakerclub.co.uk.

Blue Green Algae Update

We are delighted to report that the blue green algae bloom has subsided, and at this time there are no restrictions on activity or use of the club in relation to the algae! Whilst the algae is still present in the water (and has been for many years) it is not currently forming the scum which is the warning sign of potential problems.

Thank you to everyone for bearing with us whilst we took action to mitigate this risk. All the procedures, guidance and forms we had in place while the bloom was evident have been archived. We hope to never need them again, but if there is a bloom in the future we now have the tools to continue activities with less disruption than we experienced this year.

Hedge Planting on Saturday

A big thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far to help with planting our new hedge in the northern boatpark. Phil is planning to make contact with you today to confirm the details for Saturday. Many hands make light work, and so if anyone else is able and willing to join the team on Saturday 18th November they would be very welcome. Please email commodore@spinnakerclub.co.uk if you can help.
