Firefly Weekend Report

This weekend saw our very popular Firefly Weekend return! A huge thank you to everyone who made the weekend happen. You can read a full report here.

Help Please

The Club is looking for help in planting 100 plus native hedgerow plants to enhance the site security and looks. The first area is from the club's workshops and storage sheds to the end of the Wanderer/Wayfarer berths, and a second section form the Team racing sheds to the top of the property.

The club will hire a suitably sized power auger to make the holes. Our plan is then a team of two people drill the holes, another two people then plant the hedge plants most are container grown, but a few are bare rooted. Then a final team can water the plants in. (we have two extra hose reels but may need more or watering cans to reach the end!)

So, if you can volunteer a morning either in the week or a Saturday morning please let Phil (commodore@spinnakerclub.co.uk) or James (training@spinnakerclub.co.uk) know asap.

Options for days to do this work are the 14th or 16th of November, or a week later 21st or 23rd weather permitting. The Saturdays in November are the 11th, 18th or 25th.

Thanks in advance.

Windy Weather

The storm on Thursday 2nd, showed the value of tying you boat down securely, AND ensuring the bow rest is secured too so it can't move. Several Solos slid off the trolleys, once their bows had rotated as their bow stand fell over. It seems no moved boat, nor the one next door were damaged, so we were lucky. If a club member can not get to the club, or need advice, the club staff and officers are here to help. Please remember that if boats are not tied down securely this normally invalidates your insurance policy!

Winter Series Starts This Sunday

Sunday 12th November sees the start of our Winter Series of handicap racing. The format for the next 5 Sundays is two handicap races of around 45 minutes each run back to back. The first start each day is at 10.30.

Several changes are being trialled with our club racing starting from this series. These are:
- Half of all races are to count, so in this 10 race series your 5 best results will count.
- You can change rig size mid-series and have your handicap adjusted. So if for example you sail the first 4 races in an ILCA7, and then want to use an ILCA6 for races 5 and 6 as it is windier, you will be scored based on the boat each day.
