Welcome Back to Abi

We were very please to welcome Abi Blondell back to our staff team yesterday as our new Lead Instructor! Some of you may remember Abi worked with us in 2020 (the year of Covid and lockdowns). Since her last time with Spinnaker Sailing Club Abi has worked in Malta as Vikings Sailing Club, and more recently at Southampton Water Activities Centre.

We are very happy to have Abi back on our team. As well as supporting our busy training programme by delivering sessions Abi will be mentoring and supporting our new Apprentice Instructor who is joining us on Monday 2nd September, as well as developing several exciting new projects within Spinnaker Sailing Club.

Abi joining our team means we are back to having three Senior Instructors employed by the Club on a full-time basis, meaning we are delighted to be able to sustainably man the club 7 days a week again! Thank you for your patience and support of our staff team during the difficult couple of months which have just passed.

Blashford Barrel Family Day

This Sunday (25th August) is our annual Blashford Barrel! We have a great day planned:

1100 - Treasure Hunt out on the lake
1230 - Kayak and Paddleboard Races
1300 - Dinghy Race Briefing
1315 - First dinghy race starts
1400 - Scavenger hunt on land
1415 (approx.) - Second dinghy race starts straight after the first end
1600 - Prizegiving for the day, and the bar will be open

Club kayaks and paddleboards will be free of charge to use for the day to help as many members as possible to take part in the treasure hunt and paddlesport racing. Club dinghies will be available free of charge to join in with the two afternoon races!

Commodores Cup and Alice Lisle Tankard Races

Wednesday 28th August sees our last Wednesday of 2024 where there are two races! The Commodores Cup Handicap Race will start at 17.45, before the Alice Lisle Tankard Pursuit Race starts at 18.53 and finishes at 20.00. Following the racing we will be having a short prize giving and fish & chips!

Look out for an email on Monday with a link to order your food!

Save The Date - Autumn Work Party

On Saturday 28th September between 10.00 and 15.00 we will be having our autumn work party, where we look to give our club a good tidy up, hopefully in the last of some wonderful late summer/early autumn weather! Any and all help from our members is appreciated on this day. Look out for more details and information in early September.

Spinnaker Youth Training

Don't forget Spinnaker Youth Training (SYT) restarts on Sunday 8th September! We have groups to cater to every level from beginner to racer. SYT runs in blocks of 6 weeks, with boats rigged and launched ready for a 9.30am brief, then landing and debriefed to be finished at 12.30pm.

You can see more details and book here.

Powerboat Skills Development

On Wednesday 4th September we are running a powerboat skills refresher day, this is an opportunity for members to come down and get some practice driving our club powerboats and make sure they are familiar with the operation of all our different craft! There is no need to book, and turn up for as little or as much time as you want.

Then we have an RYA Safety Boat Course running on the 5th and 6th of September! This course is a step up from the RYA Powerboat Level 2, and is required to take charge of a safetyboat at Spinnaker Sailing Club. This course costs members either £50, or if you commit to 3 x Safetyboat Driver Duties in the 12 months following your course it is free! You can book your place here now.
