Winter Wednesday Talk - Helena Lucas

Our first Winter Wednesday Talk is next Wednesday (10th November)! Helena Lucas, paralympic gold medallist and local race coach, will be talking to us about her sailing experiences including London 2012, Rio 2016 and more! This talk is going to be held in the clubhouse, and we have limited seats available so please book your space early to avoid disappointment! The bar will be open for refreshments as well.

See more details and book here.

Safety Afloat

The wetsuit/drysuit rule is now in effect. Any member sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, or paddleboarding must now wear as a minimum a wetsuit or drysuit in addition to their buoyancy aid. This rule is in effect until 1st April 2022 as per the Club Byelaws.

With a reduction in activity and staffing at the club please remember that safety boat cover is only provided for training sessions, social sailing and for club racing. Outside of these times all members use the lake at their own risk. So please check the forecast, check your equipment and check you are ready before you go afloat.

Preparing Your Boat for Winter!

With winter setting in if you have not already please make sure your craft is ready! We strongly advise removing sails from boats, and ensuring self bailers are left open, with covers secure and boats angled to allow water to drain. If you would like any assistance please speak to James or Neil who will be happy to help and offer advice.

With the recent windier weather can we please also remind all members to ensure their boat is securely tied down, numerous boats tipped over during the winds this weekend. The staff team have put all boats back on trolleys, however, some have sustained damage. If your boat has been damaged you will have been contacted directly already.

Thursday Social Sailing

Our Thursday Social Sailing sessions have started! Running from 10.30 to 12.30 this is a great chance to come down and go sailing, with a safetyboat ready to go, but no racing running!

Sail your own boat, or hire one of the club's, and then join us for a cup of tea afterwards! It looks like nice weather this week so make the most of it!

Club Staffing

Sadly it is the time of year when our staffing at the club reduces as we head into the winter period with slightly less activity. Sadly this means the majority of our instructors have finished working with us for this year. A massive thankyou to Justin, Jacob, Hugo, Matilda, Annabel, Alex, Archie and Louise for their work this year, we would not have had such a successful year without your hard work.

Over the next few months Neil will be manning the office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while also supporting club racing on Sundays. James will be onsite throughout the week in support of club activity and making sure our fleet and site are ready for next year! Please be aware that the office may not be manned from Thursday to Sunday, and as such their may be a delay in replying to any emails to the admin@spinnakerclub.co.uk email address, or answerphone messages in these times.

Club Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Spinnaker Sailing Club will take place on Sunday 5th December 2021. As with the 2020 AGM this will be held online via Zoom. Further details and the documentation in support of the AGM will be released in the next few weeks.
