This Wednesday is our annual Memorial Pursuit Race, followed by fish and chips and a prizegiving for our Wednesday evening racing so far this year!

Fish and chips must be pre-ordered via this link, and orders will be accepted up until lunch time on Wednesday: book your fish and chips here! Fish and chips will then be collected and delivered to the Club for approximately 8.30pm, and the bar will also be open.

As a reminder the race start times this Wednesday are:
- Wednesday A Handicap Race 10 - 17:45
- Memorial Race (Personal Handicap Pursuit) - 18:53

We ask that all those participating in the Memorial Race make a donation in support of Macmillan Caring Locally (more details about this charity and the work they do is below). A donation can be made either on the night in cash, or on the fish and chips booking page via the link above.

Spinnaker Sailing Club's Annual Memorial Race is a longstanding summer event in the racing and social calendar, initiated many years ago as a fundraising event in memory of Geoff Fardell a popular and longstanding club member who served as Rear Commodore House. Geoff spent time in the Macmillan Unit before he passed away where he received excellent care, making his last days as comfortable as possible. Geoff's family who were also supported by Macmillan Caring Locally wanted funds raised to support the Macmillan Unit and this is a tradition the club has been pleased to continue to this day.

The event is also an opportunity to commemorate and remember members who have passed away, with a focus on raising funds for Macmillan Caring Locally

If you live in the local area it is likely that you know of others who have been supported by Macmillan Caring Locally either in the community or the Macmillan Unit.

Please make a generous donation to help this worthy local charity.

The Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital is a Specialist Palliative Care Unit and Hospice for patients in South East Dorset and South West Hampshire. The charity, Macmillan Caring Locally, works in partnership with University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust to provide the services at the Macmillan Unit and in our community. The unit is supported and funded by Macmillan Caring Locally providing an exceptional standard of care and a homely environment for patients, their families and visitors. The charity also provides nursing and medical equipment to improve patient treatment and comfort.

The Macmillan Unit was awarded 'Practice Development Status' making it a Centre of Excellence for Palliative Care. The unit also received 'The Princess Royal Training Award' for the training and development of their volunteers in 2017 and were very proud to earn the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2018.

The charity funds the Family Support Team, Rehabilitation Team, the Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurses, the Hospice at Home Team, the virtual Day Centre and a number of senior medical staff roles at the Hospice. It also funds a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists permanently based at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.

Macmillan Caring Locally is a small, community charity and is not connected in any way to the national charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
