Weekly News!

Well Autumn finally arrived this weekend with more blustery wind and showers! While it may mean the beginning of the end for the recent warm weather it does make for more exciting sailing (and windsurfing)!

Boat Parking

With the recent stronger winds can we please remind all members of the requirement to secure your boat to the ground to prevent it tipping over in high winds! This will prevent damage to your own boat, and others berthed near it. It is worth remembering that many insurance policies specifically state boats must be secured ashore in case of strong winds, otherwise any claim will be refused.

This winter we are planning some substantial maintenance on the site grounds. To enable this work we will need to be able to move any trailers and trolleys at short notice as we have opportunities both with suitable weather and staff time. Please remember if any boats are locked in place this must be with a combination lock, with the code recorded by the office team.

Regional Junior Championships and Onboard Funfleet!

Those of you who follow the club's social media accounts may have seen the fun some of our younger sailors had in Weymouth this weekend!

Our 12 sailors all did very well, and came away smiling. Some special mentions are worthy for Jack and Billy who won spot prizes in the Onboard Fleet for demonstrating good character attributes and Jess for claiming 1st Place in the Topper Regatta Fleet!

As a club Spinnaker Sailing Club also came away with the British Youth Sailing South Region Club Development Trophy and a few other prizes for the biggest increase in entries compared to 2020!

You can see a few photos of the event on our Facebook page here!

This is an annual event and we cannot wait to return next year!

Club Racing Duties

As you know we depend on volunteers to run our club racing programme. Due to the popularity of racing this year we are working to extend our programme and offer as much activity through the winter as possible. However, we will continue to depend on volunteers to support this activity!

Please remember as in previous newsletters we are now asking all active club racers to commit to 3 race duties per year in support of our programme. Without your help we could not run the racing!

Disposal of Unpaid Boats

Some of you will remember earlier this year we sold the first batch of abandoned and unpaid boats which were in the club boat park.

Following the success of this first batch of sales we are about to serve notice on the next batch of unpaid for boats, including an Optimist, an Enterprise, a 420, a Pico and several kayaks. Once we have served notice on these craft there is a 3 month period where we will hold these craft on behalf of their owners, before we will consider how best to dispose of them.

If you believe one of these craft belongs to someone you know please ask them to contact the office urgently.

If you have paid your berth fees for 2021 do not worry, following the outstanding work of Phil Tinsley in the last year we have positive confirmation of the location of all boats which have had their berth fees paid.

New Club Racer Newsletter

We have had some excellent feedback regarding our new Club Racer Newsletter, which is sent out on Fridays!

If you didn't receive this email last week and would like to please let James know via training@spinnakerclub.co.uk so we can add you to the list!

The Return of Winter Wednesdays!

Following the success of our Winter Wednesdays on Zoom last year we are looking to repeat these events with a few tweaks this winter!

Subject to no further Covid-19 restrictions being brought in these events will be hosted in the club house this year, and very importantly with the bar open! We are aiming to host an event every 4 weeks or so, with a bit of a break over Christmas and New Year. These talks will be recorded so you can view them at home if you cannot make the event in person.

We are in the process of confirming dates and speakers. Although no date has been confirmed yet Helena Lucas MBE and Gold Medal winning Paralympic Sailor has agreed to visit us for one evening. If you or someone you know has some interesting experiences you think other members would like to hear about please get in touch with James.
