While the wetter and colder weather may have started appearing that doesn't mean we will be offering any less activity at Spinnaker Sailing Club this winter! We have a programme of racing, training and social events lined up to keep us together and out on the water this winter!

Thursday Social Sailing

Our Ladies Sailing group has now finished for 2021. So we are going to take the Thursday morning slot where this usually runs and offer a Social Sailing group that is open to any member and free if you have your own boat! Every Thursday morning from 4th November we will have a safetyboat rigged and ready, with a staff member on hand from 10am to 1pm. Club boats will also be available to hire. While we won't be running a formal session we are more than happy to offer quick tips, while also keeping an eye out to make sure everyone stays safe and has fun!

With our clubhouse open, and the showers back in action, we can all have a cup of tea afterwards!

Youth Topper Race Training

The Topper Class Association is running a series of Saturday training sessions hosted at our club this winter. You can view all the dates and book onto these sessions on the ITCA Website here.

As we are hosting the ITCA Soutehrn Area Training this winter the club is currently not planning on running any Topper specific training.

Youth Optimist Race Training

Following the success of our Optimist sailors at Parkstone Youth Week, and some links built there, we are running some Optimist Race Training this winter at the club open to members of Spinnaker Sailing Club and Parkstone Yacht Club! This training will be led by our Chief Instructor James and will be based at Spinnaker Sailing Club. We are aiming to run one training session in March at Parkstone Yacht Club as the weather settles down, look out for this date nearer the time!

The training sessions for November, December, January and February can be booked on via the calendar on our Club Website!

Winter Wednesdays

Our Winter Wednesday talks are returning! We have two in the diary and confirmed! These will be hosted in the clubhouse this winter with the bar open, so we do unfortunately have a capacity limit, and so are asking members to book their place. There is no charge for these events. Our first talk is from Helena Lucas on Wednesday 10th November Our second talk will be from Nick Craid on Wednesday 8th December. We are also lining up further talks for January and February, more details to be announced.

Powerboat and Instructor Training

Through January, Feburary and March we will be running a number of RYA Powerboat Level 2 and RYA Safetyboat courses to help our members develop their skills. Our popular racing programme is dependent upon members providing safetycover, and we as a club can help our members develop their skills and abilities in this area. There is a charge for this training, but the club heavily subsidises the training to make it as accessible and as affordable as possible to our members. You can view the dates on the calendar on our website.

We are also planning on running an RYA Dinghy Instructor course 11th - 15th April 2022. In preparation for this we are running a training and assessment day to help our membes gain the RYA Pre-Entry Assessment, which is a pre-requisite of becoming an instructor. You can see more details about this here.

Sunday Racing Programme

We have a Sunday racing programme covering most of the winter! Our Winter Series kicks off on Sunday 21st November, with club racing running every Sunday up to and including December 19th! We have a special race on New Years Day, before our regular programme restarts on Sunday 9th January!

Through the winter period our club racing starts at 10.30am and consists of two back to back handicap races, with a target time of 45 minutes per race.

There is loads going on, and we cannot wait to see lots of you down at the club this winter!
