New Equipment Store

Those of you who were at the club this weekend may have noticed that the buoyancy aids and waterproofs are no longer stored in the sail shed! They have moved into our newly kitted our drying room which will help take better care of them. In the next few weeks the Optimist equipment will be moving into the main sail store so that all our sailing equipment is conveniently stored in one room.

RYA Training Courses This Summer

Our RYA Training Courses for the summer holidays are filling up fast! We do still have a few spaces available so if you would like to take advantage of the training we offer please book soon to avoid disappointment.

New Doublehanded Open Meeting

On Saturday 6th July we are hosting our brand new Double Handed Open Meeting at Spinnaker Sailing Club, Ringwood, Hampshire.

Full details for eligibility are in the Notice of Race at the link below which is where you also enter, please note the closing date for entries within the Notice of Race. As a summary of who this event is open to the below is an extract from the NoR:

"The regatta is open to all double-handed boats with a PY number between 1244 (Feva) and 939 (RS400). While boats equipped for trapezing may enter, the use of trapezes is not permitted during racing."

You can see the Notice of Race and enter here.

Barley Bales

Today a new set of barley straw bales has been delivered to the club, and will be placed in the water next week as one step we are taking to reduce the risk of a Blue Green Algae Bloom.

While these bales are ashore can we please ask you that any children you are responsible for do not climb on them. Next week they will be placed into the shallow water, and secured in place with pegs and rope.

Racing Rules

Following on from a couple of questions over the weekend we thought it would be useful to highlight the below points about our club racing to all members:

Passing Through The Start/Finish Line:
At Spinnaker Sailing Club it is a requirement to pass though the Star/Finish Line identified by the blue and orange flags at the end of every lap. If a red flag is on the water as an Inner Distance Mark you must pass between this and the blue flag.

What To Do If I Break a Rule:
If you touch a mark you can exonerate yourself by performing one tack, and one gybe in quick succession in the same direction (commonly referred to as a 360), out of the way of other racers. To exonerate yourself for any other rule infringements it is two tacks, and two gybes in quick succession in the same direction (a 720 to many people). These penalties must be taken as soon as possible.

You can see more information about how our racing runs here.
